Ideas from Annette Frommer on How to Dress the Walls in Your Home

We all know that the real purpose of walls in our homes. is to provide support for the roof, for the floor and for the ceiling too. But walls are much, much more than just that to a house and its inhabitants. Walls provide us with security, physically and emotionally. They are also there to house plumbing and electrical wiring within them, and store them safely away from sight.

These bare walls, however, provide interior designers and homeowners with endless décor possibilities with which to dress them up. Whichever style you choose, and whatever your personal taste is, your walls can be customized to your taste and sensibilities.

Here are tips by interior designer Annette Frommer on how to decorate your walls. As she says, “your walls tie all other elements of your home together. With the right wall décor, your room and the ambiance of your space can be totally transformed.”

Following are some ideas by Frommer that are sure to enhance your space:

Mirrors

Frommer is a great believer in using mirrors in her designs. Mirrors not only allow you to check your face, but they augment light, provide reflections, and add style and sophistication when chosen right.

Paintings

The best places to hang or put paintings are in the living room, bedroom, and above a minimalistic console. Another great area is in a hallway or entryway. As Frommer says, “if your wall is totally empty, then the painting makes an even greater impact. Paintings can create a focal point that immediately draws the eye.”

Wall Paneling

The use of wall paneling is trending once again. Wall paneling provides texture, warmth, and sophistication. There are so many options to choose from. So, rather than painting an accent wall, consider paneling it.

Home Libraries

Though we live in a digital age, many of us still relish the feel of a book in our hands and the beautiful vision of a home library. In a home library we can display not only our favorite volumes, but also our beloved pieces, whether they are sculptures, vases, or any other artifacts.

Home libraries can be cozy and traditional or more modern and functional. Home library shelving can be open or closed. The options are vast ands varied. However you choose to design your home library, and whatever material and color you choose, it will be singularly yours.

To conclude

Interior designer Annette Frommer sums it up when she explains: “What you place on your wall is an important part of the puzzle of decorating your home. If it is done right, wall décor is the touch that puts together your space, so don’t underestimate its importance. Wall décor is truly the icing on the cake!”
