TIPS TO GUIDE YOU FROM A TO Z - Part 1

Following are 26 design tips from A to Z that are important in my view when planning and designing a home. It’s all here, tips to lead and guide in realizing your dream home!

Attention

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of giving proper attention to all the stages and details in a project, so that together these will combine to ensure that the outcome is polished and spectacular. Preparing a brief, choosing a color palette, mood boards and renderings, planning the layout, choosing a contractor, selecting the furniture, the light fixtures, electrical appliances, carpets, curtains, bedding and accessories, and more - do not start working before you’ve checked every necessary box. In order to make a design shine, give it your full attention, and I mean all the attention you can muster to each and every stage of the process.

Budget

You need to coordinate your dreams and expectations with the reality of a budget! So, once you decide to redesign your home, or just your kitchen, of just the bathrooms, or whatever it is you wish to do, it is of the utmost importance to plan your budget and understand how much money you actually have for all that you aspire to do. If you wish to work with a designer, discuss the budget, his or her fees and make sure that you understand what services are or are not offered. Remember: Most likely, you will need an extra 20% of your total budget for miscellaneous costs.

Custom Carpentry

Oh, how I love custom bespoke everything, especially carpentry. There are many benefits for going with custom carpentry, cabinets, libraries, or any other woodwork. You can choose the design, it will perfectly fit the dimensions of your space, and you can potentially enjoy high quality craftsmanship which will last for years.

Details in Design

It is the small details in every room that pull it together and make it look so meticulously polished and unique. Remember, all details and accent décor have visual weight. Darker items have more visual weight than lighter colored items. Finding the balance is crucial. So pay careful attention to the smallest of details including choosing the right paint color or wallpaper, how you mix wood and metal finishes, how you dress the coffee tables, console tables, fireplace mantels and bookcases with the right accessories, etc. Even the smallest of things should not be overlooked!

Elegance

Elegance means exhibiting beauty and harmony. No matter the style of your home, whether country, eclectic, modern, traditional or contemporary, you can make it elegant by ensuring that the space is uncluttered, there is cleanliness in the lines of the space, and there is balance and a sense of an effortless and sophisticated design aesthetic.

Flowers

Flowers even in the bathroom

There is nothing more luxurious than fresh cut flowers. Flowers not only provide beauty and fragrance, they are really the quickest and least expensive way in design to add color and ambience to any space. Flowers will always make you smile!

Greenery

Using plants in the home is a wonderful way of bringing in the outdoors and making it part of the indoors for that lighthearted and relaxed vibe. By placing a large plant in an empty corner or a small plant on a shelf in the study. Nothing brings texture, and organic distinction like home plants.

Home

A gorgeous house must also feel like a home, and a home means different things to different people. To ensure that the house you live in is also a home, it should make you feel at peace and happy. A space that meets your needs, that expresses who you are, is a space that enhances your life. Your home should feel authentic to you. It should be an authentic reflection of who you are!

That’s it for this part. Don’t worry, though, because there is more to come in the next post...
